And then you know what an ergonomist is and what makes an ergonomist?

Ergonomics is a multidisciplinary science and is related to adapting environments to the needs of users, it is still a little known profession in Brazil. Many people are not even aware of the applicability of this science, much less all fields of action.
If you are now familiar with this subject and want to understand more about this topic this text is for you ;)

What does an ergonomist consultant do?

The ergonomist is the professional who performs the analysis and adaptation of environments, equipment and the way to carry out tasks with the objective of preventing illnesses/discomforts, favoring productivity and improving performance to perform the tasks.
The ergonomist consultant analyzes several aspects of the environment: environmental factors, furniture, emotional and cognitive factors that directly affect the comfort and well-being of users in that environment. Through the information and collection of these data, a study of all the information collected is carried out, the consultant performs the analysis and proposes improvements in that environment.
The principles of ergonomics can be applied in the most diverse environments: corporate, school, hospital and residential.
To demonstrate the importance of ergonomics, let's think about something that is on the rise: Home Offices, have you ever noticed how they talk about posture, ways of use, how to adapt this environment...Ergonomics is in all environments and products !

Every product that has good usability has ergonomics, every production environment has ergonomics, in short:

Where there are environments, there are people! Where there are people, there are needs! Where there is a need, there is ergonomics!
Basically, this is what ergonomics proposes to improve people's lives through environments! These benefits extend to both individuals and companies.
What are the opportunities to work in the Ergonomics consultancy area:

- Incorporate ergonomics into your project:
If you are an architect or designer, incorporating ergonomics into your projects generates several benefits for your client. In addition to more security and assertiveness for the professional through market differentiation through solid technical bases.

- Provide consultancy for projects of other professional architects and designers:
With the knowledge of ergonomics, you will be able to provide consultancy to professional architects and/or interior designers, in order to integrate projects that generate improvements for their occupants.

- Provide consulting for environments:
Here, the fields of activity are infinite, providing consulting services in different environments from the most diverse segments.

- Provide consulting services to companies:
Companies are generally looking for preventive measures that involve quality of life and productivity, as they know the importance of this work to improve the performance of their workers.
In addition, companies are required to comply with the standards that relate to ergonomics, so if a location in need of improvements is found, the company must perform under penalty of fines related to the secretariat of labor, the consultant may act directly on the improvements of these environments.
As well, the consultant will be able to anticipate such risks and guide adjustments still in the design phase.

- Open your own consulting business
Service to people, companies and partnerships providing advice on a case-by-case basis.
This is a very attractive possibility, considering the large number of companies, from the most diverse segments, that we have in our country.

- Make Partnerships
The consultant can make several partnerships with professionals so that they can amplify their services extending their services to partner companies such as: stores, clinics, offices guiding the environments where people live and perform their tasks.
Another possibility for partnerships with occupational medicine and safety companies, where there is a high demand for work requests focused on the area of occupational health and safety.

- Lectures, Training and Technical Deliveries:
Once the professional is trained in ergonomics, he is able to carry out training on the topic, one of the most common is to hold lectures at the SIPATs (Internal Work Accident Prevention Week) that are held by companies.
It can also carry out training on the use of environments for its customers and to complete an area that is still little explored: Technical delivery.
How many times do I come across people in companies who cannot even imagine the purpose of each environment and the furniture choices specified by the professionals who designed the environment.

With so many examples, we can see that ergonomics is a very dynamic profession and still little explored. All these concepts are seen as an investment and not an expense!

When well executed, it produces clear benefits in terms of productivity, comfort, safety and performance. Even with the effects of the pandemic, Brazil remains on a positive curve in relation to the opening of companies, which directly represent new opportunities.
